A brief history about myself.

EDUCATION

I was born on 13 March 1940 in the village of Mellieha on the island of Malta.
After attending Mellieha Primary School, I attended De La Salle College which was one of the best private colleges in Malta. Then I spent another 4 years at
HM Dockyard Naval College, Malta.

In 1956-1957 I attended an evening course at the Malta Wireless College where I gained a First Class PMG Certificate as a Merchant Navy Radio Marine Officer.

Since I retired, I attended a course in the Japanese Language at Thames Valley University and got Excellent Credits in listening, speaking, reading and writing.

EMPLOYMENT

In December 1955, after having passed HM Malta Naval Dockyard examination, I started work in the Naval Dockyard. As I was not a technical man, I decided to work as a Naval Stores Supply Assistant with the S.N.S.O. Department. I enjoyed my work there as it took me on several naval ships.

When I was 23, I decided to come to England for a 3 months working holiday. I liked it so much that I am still on that long holiday after 41 years.

At first I worked as a night receptionist at the Kingsley Hotel in Bloomsbury way. However, I got fed up working nights and so I went to work in the import and export department with an electronic firm called Keyswitch Relays. Then, after reading an advert in the Evening News for staff to work with the Ministry of Aviation in Air Traffic Services, I applied and was selected for the job.

On 22 March 1965, I went to Bletchley Park (C.A.S.T.E.) for three months training and from there I was posted to C.A.C.C. at Croydon Airport. While at C.A.C.C. I was sent on detachment to various civil and military airports and establishments around the UK.

Then I was sent to the Aeronautical Information Services (A.I.S.) Pinner and while there I was also sent on several detachments. Among them at H.M.S. Warrior in Northwood which is the Headquarters of the Commander in Chief, the Metrological Office at R.A.F. Uxbridge and in High Holborn and at R.A.F. Northolt. I also attended several courses at Bletchley Park Training Centre and at other civil and military centres.

While at Heathrow Airport, I was promoted to a Superintendent and I stayed there until I retired at the end of March 2002. I enjoyed my work and the comradeship at the Control Tower. That was one of the main reasons why I carried on working an extra two years.
